Update from the CEO

In these early days of 2012, I am writing to convey to you all my best wishes for Peace, Happiness and Prosperity. Let me take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to our customers and all those who have trusted Genaker.

Thanks to you, in 2011 we accomplished significant achievements that will allow us to further consolidate Genaker’s position in 2012. We invested nearly 40% more in R&D and we recruited 5 new professionals last year. As a result, we managed to double turnover and increase exports by 39%.

These results were possible thanks to the loyalty of our regular customers and the entry of new national and international customers, both to our R&D Projects and the IMS Products Business Units.

We also expanded the number of Support & Maintenance contracts, started the first pilot deployments of our PoC-TETRA GW interconnecting Public Safety users between PoC and PMR domains, and established alliances with 3 new strategic partners that will allow us to increase our capacity, gain in size and meet the new challenges of 2012 with the same hope and the maximum enthusiasm and commitment

We look forward to continue enjoying your trust and support in the future.

Arduino: Increasing hardware and software interaction

Arduino is an open source hardware that can be used to easily prototype and connect hardware and software to interact with sensors and devices automatically or in response of an input from, for example, a mobile device. All thanks to such small controller that can be wearable. The whole concept is aimed at facilitating the individual use of hard- and software, empowering the so-called “internet of things”.

Thanks to this technology, our clothes can “talk” to tell a nurse that a patient has fever or indicate with blinkers in our jacket that we are going to turn left with our bicycle at the next corner. It can also control crops watering or cattle feeding to ensure the best growing conditions anytime from anywhere just from a standard smartphone. Leisure, health, corporations, R&D, security, defense… This technology covers a full spectrum of possibilities in any market.

With the added value of its expertise in mobility, Genaker is already integrating Arduino hardware in its projects and is also creating new solutions to fit the detected market needs. Soon we will introduce you to these new developments.

Can’t wait? Share your ideas with us and we will make them real together.

Genaker starts development of new NFC-based services

img

NFC (Near Field Communications) is a short range wireless technology that usually involves two actors: the Radio Field initiator (e.g. mobile device) and the target (any unpowered element containing a passive circuit, from a sticker to a poster or a card). The communication starts when initiator gets about 6-8 cm close to target. Then, the programmed action is triggered. NFC is also available between two initiators resulting in a more complete interaction.

Genaker, through its R&D unit, is working on how NFC can optimize our current products and and future developments, providing more complete solutions to the market. Android stands up as an excellent platform for this development due to its flexibility, increasing market share and powerful devices (also with ruggedized ones). Two good examples are the first NFC capable Android devices: the Samsung Nexus S and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S2.

Genaker aims to deliver secure and value added solutions for professional and residential users, with particular focus in areas such as Health & Wellbeing and Industrial applications respectively, providing a seamless integration with day-to-day situations and productivity tools. Withdraw money from ATMs, shop payments, transport tickets, instant information, automated actions, identification systems or smart locks are just a few samples on how today NFC capable devices bring together several applications and objects tomake daily tasks easier, minimize forgetting and decrease costs by the leverage of the almost all-in-one devices.

RCS-e in less than 8 hours

imgDuring Mobile World Congress a working group lead by leading operators Orange, Telefonica, TIM, T-Mobile and Vodafone presented a new approach to the RCS initiative named RCS-e. RCS is a technology standardized by GSMA with the purpose of enhancing the ways we communicate with for instance, chat, voice calls and video calls and RCS-e is the initiative to make this technology more intuitive to the end user. Genaker has a proven record as a serious partner in RCS offering the only BlackBerry enabled RCS client on the market as well as a client for iPhone.

In order to prove the responsiveness and commitment at Genaker a decision was made to respond to the market request. Consequently less then 8h after the specification was released and well ahead of the competition, the Genaker team showcased fully interoperable clients on both BlackBerry and iPhone in the Genaker booth at MWC. Taking on and completing this challenge in record time again confirms the flexibility and adaptability within Genaker, a fact well known by all of our partners.

An Android phone acts as a mobile sound sensor. You can set from the device or from a PC to trigger an action (Twitter post, voice call, pc pop-up alert, stream video from phone, send sms) when the device detects a prestablished sound (broken glass, conflict, loud sounds, alarms or preset sound). This solution is applicable to many everyday's situations both for residentials and companies.
